In Slovakia, the automotive industry represents 39% of the total economy of the country. Indeed, for 5,4 million people living there, almost 1 million cars are produced each year, which makes Slovakia the 1st car producer in the world (compared with the number of inhabitants). 74 000 Slovak people live today thanks to their job in a car company. Now, they even surpass Czech Republic and also South Korea in this area.
These impressive numbers are due to many investments and efforts. But what is important to consider is that these investments are not so old : they started thanks to the European Union. Slovakia belongs to EU since 2009. The current is now the Euro, which facilitates exchanges with other countries. Furthermore, the labor in this country is cheaper than Western Europe, and closer than the other side of Atlantic. And with the central position of this country in Europe, the distribution and delivering of products are also easier. So, the investors started to focus on this promising country.
In Nitra, we can see a lot of french cars. Most of them are Peugeot or Citroën, what is normal because PSA located some industries in Slovakia, which has a skilled labour force. We heard about internships that we could do here, because these french companies are looking for people who speak english and french languages. So it can be interesting to have contacts here for the purpose of a future internship.
Erasmus in Slovakia 
No one can survive today in the absence of an automobile. People go to their offices or any other place in their cars. I personally have experienced this thing that my life comes to a pause if any of my auto part gets damaged. People won’t be able to do anything in the absence of automobiles. That’s why automotive industry have expanded so much
